Tartan? Checked!!

Tartan are the famous patterns made of horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colours. Tartan is associated with Scotland, my grandmother’s homeland.

Until the middle of the nineteenth century, these highland patterns referred to certain regions or districts, rather than a specific clan. Tartan designs were produced locally and weavers would use the natural dyes available in that area. It was not until the mid 1800s that specific tartans became associated with Scottish clans or families.
