Part 2: Blogger Meetup with Emily of Livin' Vintage
photobooth_emilyPart 2 of the blogger meetup with Emily of Livin' Vintage: Above & below are photos of our evening outfits to go hear jazz at the Prohibition-era Green Mill. Unfortunately we couldn't find parking up there on a Saturday night so we ended up coming all the way back down to my neighborhood and went to my favorite dive bar, Rainbo Club instead! Our super vintage outfits got a few looks but we had fun anyways. Emily is wearing a dress I gave her-- I found it at a garage sale a while back but it never fit me quite right. It looks so much better on her!vintageduoSaturday morning we woke up early to go to the famed Newgard neighborhood garage sale up in Rogers Park. My friend Lara Jo was participating and she was so swamped with shoppers we barely got to visit with her! Her sale was by far the best in terms of vintage-- there were definitely less sellers this year and less vintage/antiques too so it was a little disappointing. I did still find a couple of things including the objects below: a miniature paint-by-numbers framed nude, two ceramic hands, a silver compact with little lipstick inside and a miniature sewing basket. The sea horse plaque was found at an Evanston thrift store where we headed after the garage sales. We went to three thrift stores and then ate lunch at my favorite Greek restaurant, Cross Rhodes.paintingcompact_interiorseahorserecord_emAbove: a few records Emily found at a thrift store in Evanston. Below, her & her beau browsing records at Dusty Groove in West Town.recordsI forgot to post a picture of the locket purchased at my favorite vintage jewelry shop -- the store is located in a strip mall so is definitely a hidden gem. It is literally packed wall-to-wall with baubles from the Victorian Era to the 1970s so it is very hard to resist buying everything in there!locket_closedAs per usual, my favorite aspect of this locket are the photos inside-- the guy is definitely rocking a James Dean look (leather jacket! slicked back hair! that old car in the background!) and the girl seems very sweet with her frilly pinafore. Makes me wonder what their story was and why the locket ended up in an antique store.locket
