Speaking of Solange Knowles, my best friend shares her name and is equally as awesome. Solange Franklin and I met in high school, went to college together, and have been inseparable since (she came to Turks & Caicos with me!). We used to read fashion magazines together and wonder if we'd ever get to be a part of that world--something we thought unlikely since we were at a liberal arts school with no fashion experience. Cut to six years later: we took very different paths, but both ended up successful in the industry. After a few magazine internships (including Teen Vogue, in which she was just profiled), Solange went on to assist internationally renowned stylist, Giovanna Battaglia and has helped style numerous shoots for Vogue Japan, Vogue Italia and W. And now she's branching out on her own, too--she was the head stylist of this Rita Ora Paper Magazine cover!!! Recently she teamed up with Canadian jewelry brand Alynne Lavigne to design the amazing gold plated numeral pin that I'm wearing in these photos. It's absolutely gorgeous and I couldn't be more proud of her!
