For Us By Us is a collaborative short film project between 24 fashion design students and 6 artists, who are all based in Brisbane. The designers created garments to be used in the fashion film, with the inspiration of the work of each artist. For Us By Us looks to engage these two disciplines for future work and collaboration. It is, as designer Stephanie O’Dea has said,
“...essentially cutting down the creative divide and seeing what can happen.”
For Us By Us essentially aims to be the landing point for a creative relationship between artists and designers; to create somewhat of a culture that had the two disciplines working together, rather than competing with one another.
The premiere of the film is on Friday the 29th of October at the Tribal Theatre, and will include not only a showing of the film, but a documentary showcasing the collaborative process between the artists and designers over the six week period. It will be interesting to see what this team has come up with; I would be in denial if I didn't say I am excited.
