Winter Smoky Eyes: Purples and Plums

Smoky eyes have become a stable of eye makeup looks but by using different colours and different techniques the smoky eye gets a revamp for winter! The following tutorial shows you a simple yet striking look which is great for these colder months!
I always recommend doing your eyes first with a smoky eye! The amount of shadow or pigment used will almost guarantee you fallout and by doing your foundation after your eyes you are assured a clean and glowing complexion.

The eye shadows I recommend for this look are Physicians Formula Baked Trio in ‘Baked Sweets’ (RRP $19.95) if you want a more pastel look or Prestige Cosmetics’ Skin Loving Minerals trio in ‘Rose Crystal’ (RRP $27.95) (Used in this tutorial) for more of a plum look.

To begin I used the Face of Australia Shimmer Eye Primer (RRP $7.95) all over the eye from the lash line up to the brow bone. This eye primer doesn't just hold the shadow but also adds extra shimmer and created a more ‘frosted’ look.

Take your eye shadow palette and an all over eye shadow brush and sweep the lightest shadow colour all the way up to the brow bone.Next take an eye shadow shading brush and the second lightest shade and apply this colour to the lid up to the crease.

Then take a crease shading brush and using the darkest colour shade in a small ‘V’ into the outer corner of each eye from the lash line and ‘V’ out and up to the crease: and blend, blend, blend! Then take a dark purple or plum eyeliner, for look I recommend Prestige Cosmetics Khol Blend Eye Pencil in Shiraz (RRP14.95) and line the top lash line.

After cleaning up any fallout from under the eye apply Innoxas Pure Silk Skin Primer (RRP $24.95) then follow this with L’Oreal Infallible Foundation, I used ‘607 Creamy Natural’ (RRP $35.95) on our beautiful model. Because I am an avid believer in powder I dusted her face with Face of Australia loose powder in ‘Translucent’ (RRP $11.95), but this step isn’t compulsory for those who like a more dewy finish. To finish the eyes I used a cotton tip and coated it in the lightest shadow colour and ran in the inner corner of her eye and along the lower lash line then applied two coats of Bourjois Volume Glamour Ultra Black Mascara in ‘61’ (RRP $20). Then using Prestige Cosmetics Brow Shaping studio in ‘Light to Medium’ (RRP $19.99) I filled in her brows. With this look I used a pink blush such as Bourjois little round pot blush in ’34 Rose D’or’ (RRP $20) as a contour. Using an angled brush fill in a triangle between the top and bottom of your ear, about an inch down the cheek about then bring it straight across to meet up with the bottom of your ear lobe.
On her lips I applied a light frosted purple gloss. I know not many people are fans of frosted lips but for this winter look I think it completes it.A great finishing touch to this look is with Revlon’s new scented nail polish in ‘300 Cotton Candy’ or ‘325 Gum Drop’ (RRP $13.95).

We completed the look with bow earrings and a soft pink headband to add that final touch of feminity.
