Part 2: More Finds at Randolph Street Flea Market
whitecouchI took so many photos at the Spring Fling version of the Randolph Street Flea Market the weekend of March 24th/25th they had to be split into two posts; be sure to check out part 1 if you missed it.

The dealer of the white couch told Maranda & I that it was "albino alligator", of course being gullible I believed him, so very gingerly posed on the couch for a photo. Of course it's actually made of white leather that had been texturized to look like alligator.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy my visual roundup of The Randolph Street Market. Scroll to the end to see my finds/haul from the market.remingtontypewriterAntique Remington "Deluxe Remette" typewriter. Based on the name I'm assuming it was a typewriter marketed to women back in the day? The photo of the typewriter and the next four photos were taken in Revival's booth.vintagemailboxesVintage mailboxes, some post offices (like one I went to in NYC) actually still use this old fashioned metal & glass style.revivalduofolkartHand carved and painted wood folk art style religious figures, possibly of saints.basketofantlersspiderwebtoasterMr Toaster was back with his super shiny chrome toasters that were all functioning. He always has a loaf of bread in his booth so the toasters can be tested on the spot! I'm a toaster oven girl but would buy the Art Deco spider web toaster above just to use as an objet d'art in my kitchen.toaster2Usually toast pops UP, I wonder what inspired this pop DOWN toaster?thousanddollartoastermickeymousestoolheartdishpursediptychThere was an abundance of gorgeous, well priced vintage purses at the market this time around, somehow I resisted buying one! One booth on the second floor had several that caught my eye.barkclothpurse1940s bark cloth purse with celluloid handle.bowfascinatorI finally wore Maranda down and she bought her first vintage hat, actually a fascinator, bedecked with black velvet bows.tapestrypurseI collect tapestry purses so it was hard to resist this clutch.lacepurseA dainty lace and wood clutch.seedlabels2Stunning graphics and colors on these vintage seed packet labels. I could see them framed together in groups or made into greeting cards.eggprintsTwo vendors on the balcony were selling paper ephemera and antique lithograph prints including these images of eggs.MCMpotteryMid Century Modern pottery.vintageanatomydrawingsMaranda almost bought these antique anatomical drawings. They were only $5 each!abstractartcrystalsnailsI have the twin of the small crystal snail, the large snail would definitely make a statement on a shelf. By the way I predict that the snail is the new whale (which was the new owl).bibnecklacesheartnecklacesnecklacescandylucitebraceletSadly my money had run out by the time I came across this bracelet, I loved the way the chunks of lucite looked like tropical flavored candy.bustamantegiraffeThe label says "giraffe" but it looks more like a zebra.decogirlfoldingcameradancerlampdeerpinpinkjaguarleopardhatblingnecklaceBLING!singingbirdpurseA hand painted wood purse featuring a sweet singing bird. It was only $20 and reminded me of Enid Collins' handbags.yellowbookendspsychedelictraypotteryraccoonstatementnecklacesMaranda & I both swoon over vintage jewelry so it was a treat to see so many high end pieces in one location-- at the Man in the Moon Antiques boothbakelitebanglesA bevy of Bakelite bangles.lucitebutterflies50sbiplanepinA 1950s Bi-plane pin made of metal. I have a camera pin that's done in a similar style.scottiedogslucitebluejayA stunning lucite blue jay pin.vanityitemsA variety of vanity items in a downstairs booth (next 3 photos from the same booth, wish I'd gotten their name).copperboxModernist copper box, meant for trinkets or jewelry.beadedfruit1960s/70s beaded fruit.alabastergrapesAlabaster grapes and a miniature pin up sculpture.industriallightsbooth_pinkbooth1booth3booth2kostabodalionKosta Boda (Sweden) glass lion sculpture or paperweight.flowerchildOn the way back to the train stop, I had Maranda take my photo by a flowering spring tree in the park. The 1960s "flower child" dress is not something I'd have ever predicted myself picking out--I rarely wear anything that's not belted and it was odd wearing something so short without tights. -- but strangely it works.

1960s dress: Bombshell Shocked Vintage
Leather t-strap heels: Buffalo Exchange, Chicago
Lucite Bangles: ThrifteddaguerreotypeboyfriendsDespite the fact it was my birthday weekend I was good and only purchased a few small pieces. After coming across the My Daguerreotype Boyfriend Tumblr Blog I was on the lookout for some good looking fellows. Maranda & I couldn't agree on which fellow was more handsome so I bought both of them (for $3 each).vintagenecklacesOf course our first stop is always the bargain bins full of jewelry at Weber's Antiques. I found the above necklaces there-- the one on the left is a 1960s gold tone piece that reminded me of a tassel or fringe. Of course I have several vintage strands of faux pearls but the necklace on the right is my first "black pearl" strand.acornbraceletBracelets from Weber's, I think the bangle is actually Bakelite (it was only $1). The silvertone bracelet has bells and acorns, you'll definitely hear me coming when I wear this bracelet.aquapurseI'm defenseless when faced with anything aqua so had to purchased this aqua bead purse. I think it originally was meant for cigarettes, but since I'm a non-smoker I'll use it for my iphone.MCManimalsA sweet Mid Century Modern cat sculpture and an Austrian teak fish shaped dual bottle & can opener.catbuttonsAntique clay buttons in the shape of cat faces, they're creepily cute. I hope to string the three of them on to a chain or cord to wear as a necklace.vintagebobbypinsLinda of Morning Glory Collectibles noticed I admired her vintage bobby pins during the Valentine's version of Randolph Street so she gifted me three sets for my birthday!minipinkrazorA teeny pink 1950s razor in its original case. I'm drawn to miniature items so had to buy it for the sheer novelty value.orchidprintI really don't need any more artwork but this hand tinted lithograph of an orchid reminded me of my botanist father. He owned an orchid plantation when we lived in Hawa'ii and our home also teemed with the flowers including this variety, nicknamed "Dancing Dolls" because of the way the small blooms resemble dressed up ladies. Once I find a small frame it will become a part of my collage wall of botanical, bird and butterfly prints/paintings over my living room couch.

If you're in the Chicago area, you should check out the next version of The Randolph Street Market, April 21st & 22nd. Its theme is "Modern Vintage Chicago Spring Clothing & Jewels Explosion." It will exclusively feature clothing, jewelry and accessories. Sorry boys, you'll have to wait until the May market to get your fill!
