Autumn Traditions: Apple Picking at County Line Orchard
thriftaholic_twirlWhen the temperatures start to dip and the leaves turn, it's time for a trek down to County Line Orchard in Indiana, my favorite autumn tradition. I've blogged about my field trips back in 2011 and 2012, this year I had the pleasure of going with a large group of friends including Sarah and Kyla of Lost Girls Vintage and Jessie of Mini Penny. Located only an hour outside the city, the orchard provided us with a rural oasis of pumpkin patches, a corn maze and of course, rows and rows of apple trees. The best part? The fresh apple cider and pumpkin doughnuts, all of bought a six-pack home with us to enjoy.

I wore a 1950s square dancing dress for the outing, the past two years I've also worn vintage square dancing dresses, they just seem to fit the farm setting.

Thank you Jessie for taking our photos that day, be sure to check out her blog for more.orchard_fenceLeft to right: Me, Jessie, Kyla & Sarah.thriftaholic_applethriftaholic_kylathriftaholic_twirl1Another yearly tradition-- twirling! The best part about square dancing dresses are their voluminous skirts.thriftaholic_twirl1.applesthriftaholic_tractorthriftaholic_pumpkin_pyramidthriftaholic_cornucopiapumpkinsthriftaholic_pumpkinorchard_group.I'm hefting an almost 40-pound pumpkin in this photo, surprisingly there were even bigger ones that could be purchased at the orchard.

What are your autumn traditions? Are there u-pick orchards close to where you live?
