After a spate of warmer days, it finally looks and feels like autumn in Chicago. With the brisker temperatures and shorter days comes annual seasonal traditions, like apple picking at the County Line Orchard in Hobart, Indiana. The past three years I've made the 40-minute trek out to the orchard to traipse through rows of apple trees, meander through the corn maze, pick pumpkins and indulge in fresh apple cider and pumpkin donuts.

Usually I wear a vintage square dancing dress to go apple picking but this year I found the perfect dress, a 1950s Swirl brand dress with a novelty print of red apples and the Farmers Almanac, at the Randolph Street Market. The text from the almanac is even legible. I complimented the dress with a 1930s celluloid leaf necklace also found at the Randolph Street Market, a late 1950s cropped cardigan from the Edgewater Antique Mall, a 1960s corn cob brooch from the Nashville Flea Market, a 1930s brass apple charm bracelet from a Suburban Secrets (a now-closed vintage shop), a thrifted wool beret and cowboy boots.
