On Saturday, whilst my dear friends Elly and Sarah were visiting from Brisbane, we decided to take a little day trip to the adorable "Ye olde" township of Ballarat, about an hours drive from Melbourne. Arriving in Ballarat, we started our day pacing down the Saturday markets, Hudson coffee in hand, before stumbling upon a petting zoo right smack bam in the middle of the town centre.
The architecture there was absolutely amazing. Being one of Australia's oldest towns, and having lived in young Brisbane for many years prior to moving to Melbourne, I'm still not quite accustomed to seeing such gorgeous antique buildings. The Art Gallery we visited for instance has a magnificent staircase leading to multiple collection rooms housing pieces both new and old, indigenous and non-indigenous. I was also pleasantly surprised that there were contributions from artists studying at the Australian Catholic University (being a student alumni myself).
No adventure is complete without trying out the local cuisine, and what better way to do so than a delightful late brunch at The Lane cafe? Absolutely delicious and definitely worth more than the loose change pricing.Dress by Mika & Gala
